A superb weblog.

Rift: Infiltrator Johlen

Infiltrator Johlen

Infiltrator Johlen is the second boss encounter in Greenscale’s Lair.  This boss has three main sections.  The first phase is a DPS awareness fight.  Infiltrator must be tanked in the middle of the room and all members must stand between the four trees at the edges of the area.  When the boss is engaged, wisps spawn along the edges, outside the trees, that will nearly one-shot any member who happens to get hit by them.  Note: this part is currently rather buggy (intentional or otherwise) and even if the graphic of a wisp doesn’t hit you, you’ll still get the debuff that will tick for ~3,000 hp/s.  Here’s a layout of the room.  The green circles are the trees, the white circle is where the boss should be tanked and the red lines are the path that the wisps spawn.

Infiltrator phase 1During the first phase, infiltrator will randomly teleport to a raid member and place a bomb at their feet.  These bombs take about 1 second to ‘arm’.  Any member that passes within the bomb’s radius will be knocked back and potentially knocking them into the wisps at the edges of the room.  These bombs must be avoided.  A simple strategy to destroy them is to have any pet class micro-manage their pet to attack a bomb.  This will cause the bomb to explode and do nearly no damage to the pet due to the pet’s AoE damage reduction skills.   Infiltrator will add a second and third type of bomb after leaving phase 2.  The second bomb type is a landmine that will simply explode after about one second, knocking back any member within it’s raduis.  The third bomb type is a blinding bomb.  Infiltrator will toss 1 of these during the second phase one, and up to two during the third phase one.  These simple require all raid members to face away from the bomb before it explodes.   If any raid member is hit by blinding bomb they will be incapacitated for 3 seconds, possibly walking into the wisps at the edge of the room or into one of the other bomb types on the ground.

At 25% increments throughout the fight Infiltrator will enter phase 2.    During the second phase, Infiltrator will drop a ‘big bomb’ in the center of the room that must be killed within a set time limit or it will explode and kill every member of the raid.  This is a good time to use any long-cooldown buffs such as a bard’s Verse of Joy.    After the bomb is killed, Infiltrator returns to phase 1.  After the phase 2 at 25%, Infiltrator will enter phase 3.  This adds 4 new paths for wisps to travel and decreases the available area for raid members to stand within the four trees.  Below is a map of the wisp’s paths during phase 3.

Infiltrator phase 3During phase 3, Infiltrator will spawn all three types of bombs, and up to 3 concussions bombs at a time.  This means all raid members must pay very close attention to where they are standing and be very quick to react to move out of the radius of a bomb.
